How It Works

How BidAndBuy Works

A practical guide to browsing the marketplace, listing items, buying where Buy Now is offered, bidding on auctions, Wanted Posts, and Business Profiles on BidAndBuy.lk.

Browse / find an item

Browse listings across categories on BidAndBuy.lk, including Vehicles, Property and Electronics. Listings can be auctions or business classifieds.

Open a listing to review the details, photos, and seller information. On an active auction, check the current bid and minimum next bid before you place a bid. Where a classified listing offers Buy Now, that link opens the seller’s purchase page.

How to add a listing

  1. Sign in

Create or use your BidAndBuy.lk account.

  2. Create your listing

Open Create Listing, then choose the category and subcategory.

  3. Add the item details, photos and applicable information

Include the required details and photos. Vehicle listings can also include vehicle details and optional videos where available. Choose Personal or an approved business identity if you have one.

  4. Set the auction duration

    Choose an available auction duration.

  5. Review and accept Terms & Conditions

Review the applicable Terms & Conditions before submitting.

  6. Submit for approval

New listings go through approval before becoming publicly active.

How to bid

Bidding is currently free on BidAndBuy.lk. You can take part in eligible auctions without paying a bidding entry fee.

  1. Open an active auction.
  2. Review the listing, current bid and minimum next bid.
  3. Enter a valid bid.
  4. Submit.
  5. Continue bidding if another bidder bids higher.
  • You cannot bid on your own listing.
  • A bid must meet the auction’s minimum increment shown on the listing.
  • Bidding is only available while the auction is active.

How auctions work

  1. Seller creates a listing.
  2. Listing is approved.
  3. Auction becomes active.
  4. Buyers place bids.
  5. Auction reaches its end time.
  6. Final outcome is determined using the highest bid and reserve rules.
  • The reserve price is hidden.
  • You may see whether the reserve is met or not met, but not the reserve amount.
  • If the reserve is met, or there is no reserve, the auction can end as SOLD.
  • If the reserve price is not met, the auction ends with RESERVE NOT MET and no winning sale is recorded.
  • If there are no bids, the auction can end as EXPIRED.
  • Auction end times are fixed; auctions do not automatically extend when late bids are placed.

What happens after an auction ends

If the auction is sold

  • The highest valid bidder is the winning bidder.
  • BidAndBuy can provide post-auction completion tools where applicable.

Important: BidAndBuy.lk does not handle the physical transaction between buyer and seller, including collection, transfer of ownership, delivery, or completion of the deal.

If the reserve is not met

  • The auction ends with RESERVE NOT MET.
  • No winning sale is recorded.
  • Eligible sellers may relist certain ended auctions within 72 hours after the auction ends.

Wanted Posts

Authenticated users can create Wanted Posts to tell sellers what they are looking for. Wanted Posts go through admin approval before becoming active.

  • Active Wanted Posts can receive seller responses.
  • A seller can respond with an existing matching listing.
  • A seller can also respond personally without an existing listing.
  • Vehicle Wanted Posts can specify make/model, model edition, year range, mileage, preferred colours, transmission and fuel type.

Business Profiles & shopping

An approved Business Profile lets sellers publish listings under their business identity instead of their personal seller identity. Businesses appear in the public Businesses directory and provide a storefront containing the business’s active listings.

  1. Create a Business Profile.
  2. Submit it for admin approval.
  3. Once approved, publish listings as that business.
  4. Manage the business and listings from your account.
